We often hear that one must look at Technicals or Fundamentals before investing in stocks. However, have you ever heard of the concept where astrology is mixed with investing, known as Muhurat Trading? “Muhurat” means the right time to do something.
Muhurat trading occurs every year and was initiated by the NSE in 1992. Each year, the market opens for approximately 1 hour on the festival of Diwali, allowing anyone to participate and buy stocks of their choice. The investment made during Muhurat is believed to bring good fortune and success.
Muhurat Trading Date & Time :
The date and time for Muhurat trading change every year based on the festival. The official date for Muhurat Trading is November 12, 2023, and the trading time is from 6 PM to 7:15 PM, including a 15-minute pre-market session.
During the Diwali festival, the exchanges are open for 1 hour for investment and trading and close after Muhurat. The Muhurat for Diwali is between 5:40 PM to 7:36 PM which also aligns with the time of Muhurat Trading.
Stocks to Pick:
During Muhurat trading, people usually invest in stocks they want to hold for the long term, for the next few years. Several factors should be considered before purchasing any stock. Stocks that are in a higher time frame uptrend could be a good pick.
If you are confused and have no idea which stock to pick, you can go with Mutual Funds, which are less volatile compared to stocks.
Minimum Investment:
There is no compulsory minimum investment for anyone, anyone can open a Demat account for free and participate in Muhurat Trading with as low as they want. However, to purchase any stock, you need to own at least 1 quantity of the share, which could be of any amount depending on its current market price.
The quantity purchased will be shown in your Demat account once your orders get filled. Some of the popular Indian brokers are Zerodha, Upstox, etc.
Risks at Muhurat Trading :
During Muhurat trading, the market will open for a very short period, so there might be volatility. If you are investing for the short term, be careful as price might fluctuate as the market is open for a very short period of time and every year Muhurat trading is gaining popularity as more and more people are participating in the market. If you are looking for well-researched long-term investments, you don’t need to worry about the short term volatility.
Muhurat trading has become an annual tradition for many investors, as people believe that Goddess Lakshmi will bring good luck and fortune to their investment and has been gaining popularity every year
